Hana-Mi 2005
This year we will use the beautiful setting of the East river and Manhattan skyline for the spring celebration Hana-Mi. The cherry blossom festival.
The park is the perfect place I feel. It should be perfect timing as well. There are a few BBQs and picnic tables. We hope we can secure enough to satisfy us all. If you have though a portable BBQ might not be a bad idea to throw in the trunk if you are coming by car. There is plenty of green grass to lay out a blanket and relax. The lighthouse and scenic back drop of Manhattan should be perfect. AND you can fish!!
Place: Lighthouse Park, Roosevelt Island, NY
Date: Saturday April 23rd, 2005 (Rain date: Sunday the 24th)
Time: 11:00AM ~ till its too cold, the baby cries, etc...
Who: Anyone and everyone...
What to bring: ....this is where I am going to say you are on your own. I will bring charcoal and lighter fluid, enough for everyone I think, unless you work out something with me, or someone else, bring your own food and drink. If you want to BBQ please do so, bring a steak or some hot dogs if you want. Share with everyone, don't, it depends on you. If you just want to bring your own bento or a deli sandwich its up to you. Personally I haven't decided what to eat but I will be BBQing. There is a supermarket on the island and a few restaurants in Queens before you cross the bridge onto the island for takeout.
Also if you have blankets, plastic tarp, chairs,
games, etc. please bring what you can.
How to get there: I'm driving. I will use Yahoo! maps. Search for Roosevelt Island, NY. If you need help get in touch with me. Manhattan people, take the train or tram, Ill pick you up at the station if you want.
Misc:
*There are bathrooms nearby.
*Parking is easy. **Warning!!** The parking lot has many obstacles that
tires would not take to kindly. Lots of cut off parking meters and wires
and such.
*The tramway from Manhattan sounds like fun, it as well as the train station, is
on the opposite end of the island.
There seems to be regular bus service and it might not be a horrible walk.
I suggest getting a cell phone and call one of us with a car!
*We are kind of protected by the wind but a cool day could be chilly.
MAP: I made it :-)
